ACLS for Experienced Providers is the most advanced course offered by the American Heart Association. It was designed to address the critical thinking skills needed by healthcare providers who regularly respond to complex cardiovascular, respiratory, and other emergencies, such as physicians and nurses in the emergency and critical care areas and paramedics in prehospital care. The audience should have a mastery of ACLS. The ACLS EP Course goes beyond ACLS by giving these specialized providers more focus and information to deepen their knowledge around the periarrest, arrest, and postcardiac arrest care. In the ACLS EP Course, providers actively participate in complex case scenarios and apply critical thinking skills to reach a differential diagnosis and rapidly create a treatment plan for the patient.

ACLS EP offers critical thinking opportunities for those advanced, experienced, healthcare professionals who use ACLS on a regular basis. The goal of ACLS EP is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory and other (e.g., metabolic, toxicologic) emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making strategies. Through cooperative learning and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and postarrest patients.

This course is for seasoned healthcare providers who are proficient in performing BLS and ACLS skills, reading and interpreting ECGs, and understanding ACLS pharmacology, those who regularly lead or participate in emergency assessment and treatment of prearrest, arrest or postarrest patients. ACLS EP supersedes standard ACLS and is intended for clinicians that have re-certified ACLS through at least two cycles.

Upon successful completion of the ACLS EP Course, the learner will receive an ACLS EP course completion card, which is valid for 2 years. The card signifies the card holder has successfully completed the core requirements of ACLS as well as demonstrated the ability to apply the systematic approach in treating complex cardiovascular emergencies.

Course Price: $300.00

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training is an advanced course that highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Before taking ACLS, students should have a mastery of BLS skills and a current, non-expired AHA BLS Provider certification (we will ask to make a copy of your card when you arrive for class). If you do not have a current BLS Provider card, you can add a BLS Provider course and it will be completed during your ACLS course. A student should also be able to recognize various heart rhythms, be familiar with different types of airway management tools and their use and have knowledge of the drugs commonly used to treat cardiovascular irregularities by completing a mandatory online pretest (before class) assessment and precourse work with videos.
