Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training is an advanced course that highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, and effective resuscitation. The goal of the PALS class is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
Before taking PALS, students should have a mastery of BLS skills. If you do not have a current BLS Provider card, you can add a BLS Provider course and it will be completed during your PALS course. A student should also be able to recognize various heart rhythms, be familiar with different types of airway management tools and their use and have knowledge of the drugs commonly used to treat cardiovascular irregularities by completing a mandatory online pretest (before class) assessment and precourse work with videos.
